Yoga is an ancient Indian discipline that incorporates postures (asana), breathing techniques (pranayama), meditation, chanting and Yoga Nidra, to calm the mind and look after the body.

I practice and teach Viniyoga, a type of yoga that was brought to the west by T. K. V. Desikachar. Viniyoga emphasises:

That your practice should be based on the qualites of sthira (stability) and sukha (ease and comfort)

That your practice should emphasise the spine

That asana practice should be adapted to meet your purpose

That your asana practice should utilise vinyasa krama (orderly intelligent steps) to reach your goals

That your breath integrates your body and mind

That the breath is used to adapt postures

That your breath provides valuable feedback in your practice

Because of the ability to adapt postures and use vinyasa krama, this gentle style of yoga is good for beginners and those who wish to pursue a practice that is sequenced so you can access postures, breath work and relaxation in a way that suits you, whatever your ability.
